Mission Booking Releases

Mission booking releases are processed at the Hidalgo County Jail, which serves Mission and all other cities in Hidalgo County. Mission does not operate its own jail facility. When Mission Police make an arrest, the person is transported to the county detention center for booking. Texas law makes those records public. What Mission Booking Records Contain

Each time someone from Mission is arrested and brought to the Hidalgo County Jail, a booking record is created. These records are public under the Texas Public Information Act. A standard booking record includes the person's full name, date of birth, physical description, charges, bond amount, arresting agency, and the booking date and time. Release information is added once the person leaves the facility.

Some records are restricted. Open investigation files, juvenile records, medical information, and certain pending case records can be withheld. The Sheriff's Office may deny those requests or ask the Texas Attorney General for a ruling before deciding what to release.

A booking record is not a conviction. Mission booking releases show that an arrest occurred and the person was processed at the jail. They do not reflect a court finding. Under Texas law, arrest and conviction are separate legal events. The booking record covers only the custody event itself.

State Resources for Inmate Searches

The Texas DPS Crime Records Division provides statewide criminal history searches. A name-based search costs $10. A fingerprint-based search provides a fuller record and costs $15 plus a fingerprinting fee. Both pull data from law enforcement agencies across all Texas counties, not just Hidalgo.

Written requests can be submitted by mail, email, or in person at the Sheriff's Office in Edinburg. Calling the jail directly is often the fastest way to confirm basic custody status. If there are fees for copies, the office will tell you the amount before processing. Standard copy fees under Texas law are low per page.

Court records for Mission arrests are held by the Hidalgo County District Clerk, not the sheriff. If you need case filings, judgments, or docket information, contact the District Clerk. Both types of records are public but are maintained by separate offices with different request processes.
